Social, Emotional and Mental Health awareness for governors and board members

Outline

All Governors, including those new to governance, Board of Trustees Members, Management committee and associate members.

No cost to schools who purchase the 2018-19 'Governor and School Compliance Training' package.

Description

This course will raise awareness of SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) and equip governors and Board Members to work with their Leadership Teams on monitoring the progress and support re students with SEMH. The course will also recalibrate/develop an understanding of Ofsted and DfE literature related to SEMH alongside reviewing good practice in schools and academies by looking at data and policies.

Outcomes

The course will help governors to:

  • Understand how SEMH students are identified.
  • Develop understanding of Early Help and the Specialist Support process in Brent
  • Develop understanding of behaviour and attendance data and school policies in relation to SEMH students
  • Appreciate specific DfE and Ofsted literature (statutory and non-statutory)
  • Develop understanding of Alternative Provision/Isolation Rooms used by schools in relation to SEMH students
  • Appreciate Ofstedā€™s 2019 Draft Section 5 Handbook re SEMH Students
